Vision for the Future
If you have an injury or illness that affects how you move, you can benefit from Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Arlington Orthopedic Associates. We treat a wide range of disabilities, from sore shoulders, sports injuries to spinal cord disorders. We also help restore function to people with a variety of physical mobility limitations. Our focus is on developing a patient specific program to help you move more freely again.

What it is

PM&R, also known as physiatry, is a branch of medicine devoted to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disorders that may produce temporary or permanent impairment and functional disability. Our physicians will use approaches such as physical therapy which sometimes can be combined with medication and injections. Our PM&R physicians are nerve, muscle, bone and joint experts. They are specialty board certified physicians, treating patients of all ages, both children and adults, primarily in four areas of medical care:
  • Musculoskeletal injuries and acute and chronic pain syndromes, which include the diagnosis and treatment of sports and work injuries
  • Back and neck pain disorders
  • Degenerative conditions such as arthritis
  • Nerve pain and injuries

What to expect

Once you start treatment, you will be under the care of our PM&R physicians. You can expect them to:
  • Diagnose and treat pain
  • Restore maximum function lost through injury, illness or disabling conditions
  • Treat the whole person, not just the problem area
  • Provide non-surgical treatments
  • Explain your medical problems and treatment/prevention plan
